What they wanted to achieve

The couple wanted to build a home together, using KiwiSaver and a documented family contribution as part of their funding plan.

Their ownership backgrounds differed: one had owned a home before, while the other was buying their first. The funding needed to reflect their actual position and the deposit evidence available.

The project also needed a progressive construction facility. That meant coordinating the land and build approvals, the builder’s stage invoices and the evidence required before the bank could release funds.

How Duane helped

01

Bring the deposit and lending plan together

Duane worked through the KiwiSaver and documented family-gift evidence alongside the bank application. He coordinated the land and construction approvals around the proposed build.

02

Prepare the project for staged funding

Consent, valuation and insurance evidence formed part of the lending work. Duane helped connect those requirements with the bank’s approval and the construction funding process.

03

Manage the finance through construction

As the build progressed, he coordinated staged invoices and drawdown requirements. Near completion, he clarified the insurance timing so the lending requirements aligned with the final stages of the project.

04

Move from build finance to an ongoing mortgage

Once the build was complete, Duane arranged the post-build loan restructure. The construction lending moved into the agreed principal-and-interest repayment arrangement, with lender confirmation that the restructure had been advanced.

Build completed and ongoing mortgage arranged

The build was completed, the Code Compliance Certificate was supplied and the lender confirmed completion of the lending and build. The post-build restructure was also completed, moving the couple into their ongoing mortgage arrangements.

A useful lesson for your own plans

A shared deposit plan needs to work through the whole build, as well as the initial approval.

This story brings family help and KiwiSaver into a real construction journey, then follows the finance through to the completed home and ongoing repayments.
